What is considered a signature-based transaction?

A signature-based transaction is considered any transaction that:

  1. is processed using your Visa debit card and
  2. requires your signature to authorize the transaction

When using the Point-Of-Sale (POS) terminal during checkout, merchants will require "CREDIT" to be selected.

What is considered a PIN-based transaction?

A PIN-based transaction is considered any transaction that:

  1. is processed using your Visa debit card and
  2. requires your PIN (Personal Identification Number) to authorize the transaction

When using the POS terminal during checkout, merchants will require "DEBIT" to be selected. The merchant will not ask for your signature at any time during the transaction. Transactions at ATMs are considered PIN-based transactions.

What does "surcharge-free" mean?

Many ATM owners charge a fee or "surcharge" for using that particular ATM, which often ranges from $1.00 to $4.00, or more! Avoid surcharge fees by making withdrawals at First Capital branch ATMs, CU$ Network ATMs, or M&T Bank ATMs.

*Domestic ATM fees incurred during qualification cycle will be reimbursed up to $20 if qualifications are met within monthly qualification cycle. ATM receipt must be presented for reimbursement of an individual ATM fee of $5.00 or higher.
