How safe is online banking?

First Capital FCU online banking applications always use secure communications. We will only allow supported browsers with 128 bit Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption to access our online banking applications. SSL ensures that electronic messages between your browser and First Capital cannot be read by eavesdroppers even if they were to be intercepted.

What is my login ID?

Your Login ID is one way we authenticate you to protect your financial information. First Capital will provide your Login ID. You may change your Login ID if you so desire. If you elect to make a change your new Login ID must be 4-12 characters in length and cannot start with a number.

Do I need a password?

You must have a password to access Online Banking. First Capital will provide your initial temporary password. You will be required to create a new password upon your first login. Your password must be 8-10 characters in length and may consist of uppercase characters, lowercase characters, numbers and the following special characters: !#$%&(*)+,-/;<=>?[\]^_{|}.

We recommend you create a strong password by combining different case characters, numbers and special characters.

How do I create a strong password?

Some security experts recommend using a password based on a mnemonic such as an easily remembered phrase. You can take the first letter of each word in a phrase and add a few special characters or numbers to make a strong password. For example, "To be or not to be, that is the question" can become 2Bor!2b?.

How often will my password change?

You will be required to change your password every 180 days.

Why must I change my password?

Security experts recommend regular passwords changes to protect your information from identity theft and fraud.

Why am I asked to select questions?

Online Banking uses a challenge-response technology called multi-factor authentication (MFA). There are two pieces to MFA; a personal identification image (sometimes called a watermark) and "challenge questions". The first time you log into Online Banking you will be required to choose an image (picture). This image will display on the password screen when you enter your correct Login ID and on each page within Online Banking to let you know that you are on the genuine Online Banking website. You will also be prompted to select three "challenge" questions and answers. Challenge questions are an additional way we confirm your identity.

How are the challenge questions used?

The "challenge" questions are presented anytime the system detects unusual activity. This may occur after incorrectly entering your password or when you attempt to login from a different computer.

How often will my questions change?

You will be required to select new "challenge" questions once a year.
